In the world of health care today, advancements in technology have enabled the life of a patient in a persistent vegetative state to be prolonged. This raises ethical questions such as when we morally ought to, or ought not to, assist a patient to live or to die. In these difficulty situations, the concept of person can act as a benchmark for deciding whom to include and whom not to include in the moral domain. However, the problem with some concepts is that they tend to exclude a large number of human beings.
