On the subject of the difficulty between the bar and the Court, I take the liberty Of making the following statement. I was opposed to the publication of the correspon dence from the beginning, and have frequently so expressed myself, thinking it would have a tendency to widen the breach without being calculated to do any good. From first to last I have been free from the control of any intention to cast dis respect or contempt upon the Court or any of its members.
