Publisher's Synopsis
This book consists of series of complementary chapters on various aspects of the Common Agricultural Policy of the European Community. As a whole the book will provide readers with a comprehensive overview of the origins, development and the current problems of policy. The book is based in part on a series of public lectures given at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne in honour of the late Professor John Ashton, although additional chapters have also been commissioned for the book. Some understanding of elementary economics is required on the part of the reader for some chapters, but the book overall should appeal to a wide readership of students, researchers and professionals in agricultural economics and policy.
