Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from The Chemist, Vol. 1: Or, Reporter of Chemical Discoveries and Improvements, and Protector of the Rights of the Chemist and Chemical Manufacturer
The want of a journal expressly devoted to chemistry, chemical manufactures and pharmacy, has long been felt; there is not one which can be considered as at all adapted for the chemical reader. There are, it is true, some few miscellaneous works, containing articles in various sciences and arts, and one or two others, composed of dull and heavy subjects of abstruse calculation, written expressly for those journals, and which seem as if they were intended to gratify the inclination of their authors for displaying their profundity, and to limit the number of their readers. These works form no record of chemical science, which should consist of all that occurs within the period of publication. It was to supply this deficiency that the chemist has been established, and every pains has been taken to keep it in the closest conformity with its object.
