Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from The Chaplain, Vol. 30: Spring Quarter, 1973
Thank god, the cease-fire in Vietnam finally came! There were no widespread celebrations, only quiet, prayer ful personal expressions of gratitude that the burden has been lifted at least in terms of American involvement in combat. The somberness of the relief can be traced to the heavy drain on the American spirit during these divisive, seemingly interminable hostilities. Fifteen chaplains were among the thousands of Ameri cans who died in Vietnam. Further tribute to them shall be given in these pages in a later issue, but let it be said here that they are and shall be remembered. Now is the time to pray and work for a constructive and lasting peace in Southeast Asia. May God grant that the concerned nations shall begin to turn their immense ener gies to reconciliation and the binding up of the innumerable wounds the war has left in its wake.
