Publisher's Synopsis

The Revolt of 1857 was the defining moment of Syed Ahmed Khan's life. Before it, his existence had been that of a civil servant and scholar. The Causes of the Indian Revolt was written in the immediate aftermath of the Revolt, and is a penetrating analysis of the reasons that led to it. The original Urdu text was first published in 1858, and the English translation appeared in 1873.
