Publisher's Synopsis
Andrew Messing and Laura Meriweather both have younger brothers who are participants in the Special Olympics. They often travel with their families to support their brothers during competitions and, while doing so, have found time to explore whatever area these events are taking place in using the time in-between events while their brothers are practicing. In exploring the mysteries of surrounding towns, Andrew and Laura have become good friends.
This time though, the event is nearby, so a party is planned for all the participants' families at the Meriweather home. After the meal, when everyone settles down to enjoy the afternoon, Andrew and Laura decide to explore the woods behind Laura's house. As they travel a little used path to the back of the Meriweather property, they find a cabin. The cabin is dirty and looks as if no one has been there in a very long time, but the padlock on the Michigan cellar behind the cabin is brand-new.
Whether because of the objects that Andrew and Laura find along the path back to the cabin or because of the two very angry men who come out of the woods at the cabin site, warning Andrew and Laura not to come back there again, Andrew and Laura begin to ask questions--questions that could get them all in trouble, even the family dog, Champ.
