Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from The Border or Riding Clan: Followed by a History of the Clan Dickson and a Brief Account of the Family of the Author
The border clans have usually been considered as little better than common thieves, none apparently reflecting that the actual state of both England and Scotland was with brief exemptions one of chronic petty warfare, nor upon the general state Of society in those days when the Bible and other books were almost unknown, for the first printing press in Lon don was only set up in 1476, and printing was not introduced into Scotland until 1501.
