But unfortunately the news of the repeal of these orders in Council came too late, and having hastily rushed into war it was difficult for America to recede; indeed subsequent events rendered it highly probable that the American Government of that day had anticipated credit from the commencement of the war, especially from the conquest of Canada, which seems to have been regarded as an easy task.
Several acts of hostility occurred between the two powers, attended with various success, but we hasten to the beginning of the campaign against Canada.
