Publisher's Synopsis
Jane Principal's father was murdered by a madman on her twenty-first birthday in 1812. Her mother Anne re-married soon after but Jane was nearly thirty before she received an offer of marriage she was prepared to accept. Her husband Edgar had little money of his own, but her's enabled them to move away from London to the depths of the countryside. The tiny village on the coast had a summer reputation, but in winter it was bleak and isolated. Would history repeat itself? Soon after moving there Jane died. This might have been from natural causes, but there were other possibilities. Edgar moved back to London, lived in Italy briefly and on his return was committed to an asylum. He appeared to kill himself there the following year. Justice? Revenge? Or was Edgar as much a victim as Jane?
