Publisher's Synopsis
With much emphasis on practical applications, this book describes, for the first time, a new method of estimating the error in commonly used numerical methods. These include interpolation, approximation of function by means of operators, quadrature formulae, and network methods for numerical solution of integral and differential equations (finite differences, finite elements, collocation and others). The advantage of the new method, which uses what the authors have named "the averaged moduli of smoothness", is that it allows the error to be estimated for an approximation method or beyond those imposed by the problem itself.
