Publisher's Synopsis
Pacing is the speed at which you move through a day's lesson, or through an entire course. Some teachers write pacing guides, but anyone can benefit from having a plan to become self-educated in engineering and science. Self-education is much easier if you have a plan like the 2023 ABES. Many English-speaking countries have a national curriculum for secondary school, but the United States does not.
Imagine a high school with a 3-year course plan written out in 108 short essays so that a full 5-hour week prepares you for the next one in the course sequence. If you understand an essay then jump to the next one; if not, then explore the library, the internet, used textbooks, and even your friends in a study group using the ABES concepts and vocabulary.
Literacy involves opinions as well as facts, and the ABES format targets 96,000 words of fact plus 12,000 words of opinions worth considering. It can be read aloud in about 12 hours, and that may be a more effective way of sharing ideas than decoding our national science standards and translating that into lessons. Give it a try! We can raise literacy in a few years if our community colleges and some of our 16,000 or so school districts try this and exchange their essays we can raise literacy in a few years.
Our biographical index includes the numbering system from Asimov's Biographical Encyclopedia of Science and Technology, linking a few hundred of those 1510 excellent essays as a quick reference to the historical storyline. We highly recommend that you get a copy of Asimov's book elsewhere. The 2023 ABES is not affiliated with nor aligned to any other science storyline; it is unique and original.
