Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from The African Repository, Vol. 57: October, 1881
Now mixed with mortals, nor disdain to grace The feasts of Ethiopia's blameless race; Twelve days the Powers indulge the genial rite, Returning with the twelfth revolving night.
Lucian represents a sceptic or freethinker of his day as saying, in irreverence of the gods, that on certain occasions they do not hear the prayers of mortals in Europe because they are away across the ocean, perhaps among the Ethiopians, with whom they dine frequent ly on their own invitation.
