In the magical land of Alizarin, bears can talk, and dance, and juggle. When Balder, a star performing bear, discovers that the rest of his circus has disappeared, he is determined to find his way back to his troupe. He teams up with a ragtag group that includes an amnesiac ten-year-old boy and a black cat with a penchant for getting into trouble. Together, Balder and his companions embark on a journey across Alizarin, encountering honey hoarders, petrifying beasts, greedy sultans, exiled princesses, pirates, a sea monster named Martha, a subterranean nation of mole people, and an evil wizard on a quest for ultimate power - and revenge.
