Owing to Hull being such a long distance from the majority of the choir centres it appeared at one time that this would militate against obtaining a good entry. Arrangements, however, were made for special trains, with the result that no less than fourteen choirs entered for the mixed voice contest. Such an entry was very satisfactory, and justified the committee in again offering four prizes of the following value, viz. First prize, holding of challenge shield (value �35) and �12. 12s. In cash: second prize, �8. Third prize, �4. 4s fourth prize, �2. 25. The test pieces were somewhat shorter than usual, but they were well adapted for the purpose of testing the choirs. The singing of the choirs was admirable in every way, and the conductors and members deserve praise for their painstaking efforts to give correct interpretation of the two pieces.
