Publisher's Synopsis
The River Thames is one of London's major assets, yet to many it is an underused resource. The preparation of this Thames strategy and the subsequent production of "Strategic Planning Guidance" for the Thames are seen as important ways of raising public awareness, improving the quality of the riverside urban form and natural environment, and for achieving the true potential of the River for transport and leisure purposes. The report is in three parts: Part A provides a basic planning position statement of issues currently relating to the River; Part B gives recommendations for a future strategy to improve the quality of urban design and of the environment along the River; Part C sets out recommendations for draft Strategic Planning Guidance for the Thames from Hampton Court to the sea.
