Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from d104-Book of Geology
Ix the endeavour to keep this d104-book abreast of the onward progress of Geology in all departments of the science, I have subjected the present edition to a thorough re vision. By abridgm ent, where this was possible, space has been found for important additions, while by the adoption of a difi'erent type from that used in the first edition, the amount of information given has been largely increased without any serious augmentation of the bulk of the volume. I have been particularly careful to add greatly to the number of references to special sources of information, which are of so much service to the student who seeks to carry his studies beyond the limits of a mere text-book. In the revision, I have derived assistance from several friends, to whom I desire to record my obligations, especially to Professor Bonney, Professor T. Rupert Jones, and Mr. W. Topley.
