Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Tennyson: A Modern Portrait
MY aim in this book has been to create a living portrait of a poet and a man as I have conceived him after a close study both of his life and his poetry and of their intimate reactions.
For twenty years of middle life, the period contained in Part II. And some of Part III. Of this book, Tenny son's poetry supplies the more vital and explicit evidence. In youth and in later life it exists rather as the implicit habit of his life, from which, therefore, I have been careful not to disentangle it.
