Mr. R. T. Quarles served as State Archivist until his death, March 5, 1913, and was succeeded by his son Robert T. Quar les, J r., who served until the appointment of Dr. Gus W. Dyer in 1914.
For the biennium of 1913-1914 the Legislature appropria ted for this department distributed as follows: Secretary, to be appointed by the Governor at a salary not to exceed per annum, Clerk, $500 per annum.
