Excerpt from Temperatures and Densities of the Waters of Eastern Canada: Including the Atlantic From the Bay of Fundy to Newfoundland; The Gulf of St. Lawrence, and the Straits Connecting It With the Ocean
In observing the currents in this Strait, the general procedure was to anchor the surveying vessel at selected stations, to serve as fixed points from which to take observations. As the current was strong when running, the deep temperatures could only be obtained at slack water when the direction turned. This was also the most advantageous time to ascertain whether the direction of the ?ow, from the ocean or from the Gulf of St. Lawrence, had any effect upon the temperature of the water. The following list shows the positions of stations where temperatures were taken in the season of 1894.
