Publisher's Synopsis
Eighteen year-old whiz kid Tommy Kinderman thinks he's in love with Lizanne Morgan, an auburn-hair beauty whose free spirt lifestyle he finds very appealing, even after she refuses to have sex with him because she likes him too much. Yet there is an undeniable attraction between the two of them that draws them together as friends and later as lovers. The trouble is, whenever they're apart, he can't stop imagining her with other guys. He needs constant reassurance from her that all is well. As his suspicions grow and her patience wears thin, all he gets from her are rebuffs. She finally has to choose between her own peace of mind and his. She ends their relationship, the hardest thing she has ever done.
Thirty years later, Tom, as he now calls himself, runs into Greg McDowell, his childhood best friend, at their high school reunion. The two friends look back on their youth with a mixture of wry amusement and head shaking, and wonder how they managed to survive. The conversation inevitably turns to Lizanne. Tom admits to harboring "what if" thoughts about her, but steadfastly maintains he's been over her for years. Tom gets the surprise of his life when Greg shares what he's heard about Lizanne and Tom begins to wonder if he might have a second chance at love with her after all. But first, he must conquer the same demons that destroyed his relationship with Lizanne the first time. Luckily, Greg is there to lend encouragement to Tom when he needs it most.
