Publisher's Synopsis

Stephen Dunstan's Tarot was originally conceived as an attempt to make a set of Tarot cards from a 20th-century point of view. The cycle of poems related to the 22 cards known as the Major Arcana followed naturally after the completion of the pack itself. He writes: 'The poems and drawings are inseparable, and presented together in this way neither should be considered the "illustration" of the other, but rather as two ways of expressing the poetic idea.' Tarot Poems is Dunstan's first publication. A selection of other work appears in Ten North-East Poets (Bloodaxe Books, 1980).
