Where scientific forestry is practiced there can be a large annual cut without exceeding the growth, and it would seem that this is the direction which the legislation should take rather than repealing the duties and turning one of our largest industries over to Canada. In 1905 there were in all parts of the country saw and finishing mills, with a capital of $5 employing wage earners, and turning out a product valued at $580.
