The last glaciation has lengthened by 10,000 years. The Ice spreads all over the North.
Társis has lived in peace for a millennium, but new empires rise in the East: Etria and Erania.
War against Etria is imminent.
The Powers of Társis send Séljar, the eldest son of the Hunter of Hunters, on an embassy to Etria in order to reach an agreement to avoid war.
At the same time, another embassy, coming from Erania, will arrive in Társis. Leading it will be Prince Ayl, the heir to the throne, accompanied by his tutor, the slave Eratosthenes. Ayl will be infatuated with Narke, Séljar's sister.
Will the inexperienced Séljar manage to arrive in time to avoid a war or will he fail in the face of the difficulties of a long and dangerous journey?
Will Narke accept the capricious Ayl or will her rejection provoke another conflict between empires?
