Publisher's Synopsis

This book has three parts. The first, a monograph by Oliver Watson and Venetia Porter, identifies and categorizes Tell Minis ware, a hitherto-unrecognized class of medieval Syrian pottery of the mid-twelfth century. Based on a large number of complete pieces, and on excavated material from Hama, it is the first such detailed study of any group of Syria ware. The second part is an important, unpublished article by the late Andrew Williamson on the distribution of glazed ceramics in medieval Iran, using the author's extensive survey work in southern Iran. Finally, Peter Morgan and Janet Leatherby discuss the ceramics exacavated by Williamson at the site of medieval Sirjan in Kirman province. This details all the glazed and unglazed wares from the site, and is of fundamental importance for students of Persian pottery.;Students of Islamic art; ceramicists; collectors.
