Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Synthetic Colouring Matters: Dyestuffs Derived From Pyridine, Quinoline, Acridine and Xanthene
Nearly four years ago, Sir Edward Thorpe asked me to write a monograph on dyestuffs of the Acridine, Xanthene, MM and Oxazine Groups for the Series on Industrial Chemistry which he is editing. The amount of material to be dealt with appeared large for one volume and it was decided to write two books, one dealing with acridine and xanthene compounds, the other with azines and oxazines.
In the course of the work it was found necessary to refer so frequently to pyridine and quinoline that the scope of the present monograph was enlarged. This seemed the more desirable on account of the interest recently taken in sensitising dyes derived from quinoline.
