Publisher's Synopsis
Swedish numerals are here treated from a number of points of view - phonology, morphology, syntax and semantics. The author investigates the numerical system as a synchronic whole, but the historical relations are also studied as long as they contribute to the understanding of the growth of numerals. There are also references to other numeral systems contrasting to the Swedish one. These include: older layers and dialectal variants of the language; Danish; Icelandic; English; French; German; Tibetan; Ainu; and Malay.;Although the study concentrates on numerals, it is also concerned with some distinctions and typologies of general theoretical importance.
