The Helophorinae are among the most distinctive of all the aquatic Coleoptera. This book gives an account of the Helophorus fauna of all Europe, Asia Minor, the Russian Transcaucasus, Israel and the Arab Middle East. Keys to the 96 known Helophorus species are provided induding details of their distribution, ecology and life history. Larvae of 45 species can be identified by a separate key and there is an illustrated account of the egg cocoons of 46 species. The general sections describe the morphology of adults and larvae and the techniques for studying Helophorus such as chromosome studies. The book is comprehensively illustrated with line drawings and stereoscan photographs.
