The collection of papers in this book was written over the period 1989-92. Many of them are based on talks given on behalf of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Part I draws together papers within the theme of relief and sustainable development, and covers such issues as disaster prevention and preparedness; research and training; institution building and changing attitudes to economic growth; structural adjustment; and development.;Part II focuses on the theme of partnerships for development cooperation.
