Publisher's Synopsis
An anthology of memoirs written by Jewish Holocaust survivors and their volunteer writing partners. The survivors suffered through ghettos and camps, in hiding and fighting in the underground, as refugees in foreign countries or passing as non-Jews, daily fearing betrayal. Following their liberation, many survivors stayed in displaced persons camps, where they waited for permission to emigrate and build new lives. Some ended up in detention camps on their way to pre-state Israel; others found themselves locked behind the Iron Curtain for decades. But eventually, they all found a place they could call home and start life anew.
