Publisher's Synopsis
This publication, based on an FAO/UNEP workshop held in June 2016, aims to better frame the notion of "sustainable value chain". It examines the organization, functioning and governance of food value chains and how these can contribute to the sustainability of food systems. Sustainability is explored through diverse entry points, from environmental to social issues, and at different scales, from local markets to globally traded commodities. The book presents practical solutions and good practices, and will inform the design of more sustainable food chains.
