Novatech conferences are one of the most important international conference series in the field of urban water management. International scientists and technicians meet over three days to exchange experiences, to get information on the most significant advances on this subject and to discover innovative and original ideas, which are likely to be implemented in the years to come. During Novatech 2004, 172 communications were presented and 570 delegates from more than 40 different countries took part in the event. The presented papers were selected by the scientific committee of 16 international experts; this special issue comprises 29 of those papers that have been enhanced in order to offer more information; these papers are representative of the quality and the subject of Novatech.
