Excerpt from Surface Water Supply of the Yukon-Tanana Region, Alaska
The following report presents the results of six years of Observa tions on water supply Of the yukon-tanana region. Unfortunately the records are very unequally distributed, both geographically and -as to length of observations. Records of run-off have been Obtained for six years at Fairbanks, for five years in the Birch Creek district, for three years in the Fortymile district, and for shorter periods in other districts. Moreover, although this report throws light on the water supply of the entire Yukon - Tanana region, yet large areas in this region have not been visited by the engineers who have carried on this investigation. It is believed, however, that the data pre sented make it possible to estimate the run-off of streams which have not been' gaged and will serve as a valuable guide to the hydraulic engineer who is seeking a supply of water. 'it need hardly be added that such use of the report will not take the place of the careful measurement of water supply that must precede any exten sive installations. Such use, however, should make this report of great value to the placer-mining industry of the region.
