Publisher's Synopsis
This volume contains the Proceedings of the International Conference on Surface Modification of Metals by Ion Beams held at Georgetown University, Washington, DC, USA, July 14-19, 1991. Over 160 participants from 18 countries attended. This conference was the seventh in the series and the first to be held in the United States. Fourteen invited speakers discussed topics ranging from atomistic modelling of ion-surface collisions to full-scale industrial processing of sheet metal using energetic deposition techniques. There were 140 oral and poster presentations in seven topical areas: Corrosion and Oxidation Applications, Wear and Mechanical Properties Applications, Ion Beam Assisted Deposition, Novel Techniques and Applications, Industrial Applications, Fundamentals, and Phase Stability of Ion-Implanted Materials. Most of the groups, world-wide, that are performing surface modification work were represented at the conference, so this volume can be considered an overview of the field at this point in time.
