Publisher's Synopsis
It is a common feature of all welfare states that there is some combination of cash benefits, tax reliefs or services in kind which provides support for families raising children. This study compares the structure and level of the child benefit package in different countries and assesses the effort that different countries are making for their children's welfare. The survey collected information on the benefits and services for families with children and used this information to simulate how the child benefit package impacts on model, comparable families in each country. It found that the UK benefit package overall is ranked towards the middle of the league table of countries.
