The New Approach simplified legislation by limiting Directives to defining of Essential Requirements, leaving detailed technical requirements to be provided by European harmonized standards. This report contains a list and summaries of the Directives that have been adopted under the New Approach. The summaries include the scopes and exclusions of the New Approach Directives and the so-called Low Voltage Directive, which has been brought into line with the New Approach. Information is provided on obtaining copies of Directives, their amendments and dates of applicability. The report will act as a simple aid when deciding if any of the Directives are applicable to a product and taking the first steps towards compliance which makes CE marketing mandatory. Requirements and conformity assessment procedures are briefly outlined. The report points the way to the lists of standards supporting the Directive, and the lists of Notified Bodies who may carry out some of the procedures of the Directives.;Industry's experience in applying the Directives is commented on. Details of the UK regulations, the references for obtaining them, and the UK Notified Bodies listings are provided. The report looks at some of the other Directives that may affect manufacturers whose products fall within the New Approach.
