Bookseller Notes

An attractive little Elzevier edition of the best known work by Sulpicius Severus (c.363-425). His Historia sacra (or Chronica, c. 403) is a summary of sacred history from the beginning of the world to his own times, barring the events recorded in the Gospels and the Acts. It was a staple text in the schools of Europe for at least a century and a half after the editio princeps of Flacius Illyricus in 1556.

Description

printer's woodcut vignette to the title; uniformly a little toned; pp. 212, full eighteenth-century red morocco, ruled gilt, flat spine with gilt stamps in in compartments and dark label, green silk marker; joints starting and a little darkened around the edges.
