Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Stresses in a Perforated Cylindrical Shell
In this paper we study the deformations of perforated cylindrical elastic shells that are subjected to surface and boundary forces. The presence of a hole in the shell's wall significantly alters the distribution and magnitudes of the stresses. Approximate procedures, which are restricted in their applicability, have been proposed by various authors [1-6] to determine these stresses. The paper by Savin [h] also contains a general discussion of shell cutout problems and references to previous work.
