The decision to use ninth grade students was in large measure due to my previous experience in running a similar achievement motivation training course for under achieving boys of about this age group. (kolb 1965) The use of a normal sample of the student population stemmed from a desire to see whether the techniques that worked with under-achieving boys c0uld be useful to achieving boys and girls.
