Excerpt from Stories From Old Chronicles
The transcriptions here given, I hasten to add, are in many cases not exact copies. I have at times transposed phrases, sentences, and indeed whole paragraphs and pages. Not only have I transposed, I have also cut repetitions, sentences and paragraphs, introduced after the manner of the old chronicles. All this I did to keep the matter to the point, and save from tediousness, to keep the different stories to the limits of this book, to preserve our present-day sense of mod esty, and in manner to set aside words the use of which is lost, and other words still in our every-day speech but with a different meaning from that of olden time.
