Publisher's Synopsis
Born in Bucharest in 1942, Marius's earliest memories are of the Allied bombings. He tells the little known story of Romania's involvement in World War II, in which his uncles were actively involved in fighting, including at the Battle of Stalingrad. His father supported the Peasant's Party and suffered greatly during the Communist era, being imprisoned many times, leaving the family struggling to survive. Despite these drawbacks and a file on him kept with the State Security Police, Marius succeeded academically and professionally. His memoirs shed light on how someone from a "dangerous" background could advance to a high level. He gives personal insight into the disastrous management of Romania during the Ceausescu regime and later, and the consequent environmental problems that are still to be solved. Moving to England in 1977 in his later life he had the leisure to explore and write on earlier interests, especially Celtic names throughout Europe, the cosmos and time.
