Publisher's Synopsis
The aim of this report is to review the extent of existing knowledge of whitefish ecology and genetic variability and of techniques for their artificial breeding and rearing. It also identifies other species which may be endangered in Britain and could be the subject of future research. The review comprises two main parts: firstly, British freshwater fishes are considered against a more general conservation background, and those which may now be considered rare are specified and their classification briefly justified; secondly, a more detailed review of Coregonus biology is presented.
