Excerpt from Statement of the New-York State Colonization Society as to Its Differences With the American Colonization Society, March, 1870
A colony was subsequently formed at Sinou River by the Louisiana and Mississippi Colonization societies. Thus four independent colonies were in progress, conducted according to the views of the different State societies, having their own governors and laws.
