Here's what you need to start a journal, diary or travel log: A notebook; A pen. You don't need all that other stuff. A map on the front cover? OH MY GOD, how useful... in 1952! Why would you ever need an attached, "vintage" piece of string to wrap around your journal? "Wouldn't want those pesky thieves to steal my awesome notebook, I shall wrap it in a leather shoelace, for this technology, and how to undo knots, is not common knowledge among thieves." It doesn't have a pen loop either. Why? Because screw pen loops, that's why. What's the point? If you don't have the space for a pen, you don't have space for a notebook. This is, very simply put, a no bullshit notebook.
