Dr. Uche-Obasi qualified as a medical doctor in 1985 at the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus, and is a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS). The author is a consultant obstetrician/gynaecologist at Safe Motherhood Specialist Maternity Hospitals Limited, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria.
