Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Special Refractories for Use at High Temperature
Crucibles of commercial zirconium silicate are not at present in use for melting pure metals because of impurities introduced into the metals from the crucibles. If a purer grade of zircon were available, or where purity of the metal is not of prime importance, crucibles of this material would undoubtedly be useful at temperatures up to 2 000 C.
Magnesium oxide crucibles prepared as described later in this paper have been used at C. If not in contact With carbon such crucibles probably could be used at temperatures several hundred degrees higher.
