Publisher's Synopsis
This is the second book of the series South Staffords at War, and again covers the period between the declaration of war on 4 August 1914 to the end of 1915. Volume 2 follows the same format as the first book, and is an anthology; a collection of biographies, newspaper reports and previously unpublished letters selected from research that I have undertaken on soldiers of The South Staffordshire Regiment. It is a chronological narrative showing how the soldiers of the regiment described their own experiences, and how these were reported to their family and friends at home, together with biographies of a further 300 officers and men of who served with the regiment during the first year of the war, collated from a variety of primary and secondary sources. It is hoped that this collection of material will be of interest to researchers, medal collectors, military, local and family historians, and those who are interested in the lives of soldiers who served during the Great War.
