To the early attainment of these results, there have been two serious obstacles. 1st. The mineral bearing portion of Sonora, is dis tant some 350 miles from the Pacific at San Diego, though readily accessible from the Gulf of California. 2ud. Small parties werenot safe in consequence of the presence of hostile Indians, and want Of protection from troops.
