Publisher's Synopsis
Unpublished until long after Mendelssohn's death, the Sonata in F MWV Q26 was composed in 1838, while Mendelssohn was serving as the music director of the Leipzig Gewandhaus, and was intended for Ferdinand David, the concertmaster of the Gewandhaus. Yehudi Menuhin's edition was the first to bring the sonata into print in 1953 and has remained popular with violinists. Contains a piano score and separate violin part.
Die bis lange nach Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdys Tod unveröffentlichte Sonate in F-Dur für Violine und Klavier MWV Q26 wurde 1838 komponiert, als Mendelssohn Musikdirektor des Leipziger Gewandhauses war. Das Werk entstand für Ferdinand David, den Konzertmeister des Gewandhauses. Diese Ausgabe von Yehudi Menuhin war die erste, die die Sonate 1953 in den Druck brachte und ist bei Geigern nach wie vor beliebt.
