This tax amounts to-day on oats barley, wheat, and corn to an average of nearly three-eighths of a. Cent per bushel, which would be, in our opinion not only unworkable from the standpoint of rev enue - that is, it would not bring in increased revenue over the rate that is now contained in the tax law by reason of the. Fact that the present tax is workable and does bring in a very fair revenue, but the multiplication of that tax by ten to the figure stated in this bill would, in our judgment, so reduce the volume of transactions that the revenue obtained would not be probably as large as the revenue you are now securing from a smaller tax.
The question of increase of revenue by the multiplication of price is. I think, quite apparent to your mind.
